Working with Identity

One of the areas of human beings that I am most fascinated by is Identity – Who we think we are.

From this “idea”, we create our reality – the way we perceive the world is always through the lens of our identity. Far from being a fixed thing, our identity is constucted, usually unconsciously, and shifts in different areas of our life. So, who I think I am is different in different roles, as a mother, a friend, a  lover, a daughter, a manager etc.

NLP gives us this great model to show how when we make changes on an identity level it can have the greatest impact on our lives – everything in the levels below identity automatically are changed.

Identity change in IEMT

IEMT has many strands to it, but one of the most profound for me, both personally and professionally, is the Identity protocol. We ask “How has a person learned to BE this way.”

By listening to the relationship between the way a person uses their personal pronouns in their language, we can begin to understand the inter-relationships between identity aspects.

And with a very simple and straightforward process and eye movement we can make immediate and rapid updates in identity.

So when someone arrives to a coaching session and says “well that’s just the way I am” or “I’ve always been this way”, I know that although that might appear to be true it is not the Truth of who they are!
