Background
Tracy has undertaken a 3-year post-graduate somatic training course with Joan Davis and Julia Gombos in Gorse Hill, Ireland: Original Nature – A Practice in Presence (2018-21). This included the foundations of the ground form of Authentic Movement, moving it into Embodied Spiritual Practice and further deeply cultivating the practice of entering into Direct Embodied Experience of the here and now with oneself and others. This was practiced both indoors and out in nature.
About the Discipline of Authentic Movement
Authentic Movement is the practice of moving from the most authentic place within ourselves. We follow our own movement impulses and truth in the moment as they are arising. The mover usually moves with their eyes closed and learns to follow, or track their own experience from within, thus developing an internal witness.
Witnessing is the ability to follow and welcome your own inner experience whilst engaged in any activity or at rest. We cultivate the attitude of loving presence, welcoming, curiosity, connectivity, encouragement and playfulness in the witnessing of ourselves and others.
Authentic Movement is always practiced in the presence of a witness, who sits with their eyes open and follows their own experience from within whilst in the presence of the mover. After moving, the mover speaks her experience, the outer witness listens and then speaks her experience of the movement. In this way language bridges experience from body to consciousness. For both mover and witness the intention toward the practice of thoughtful speech is central to the development of the discipline.[1]
As the practice develops, we move from being a mover, to a moving witness, to a silent witness, before taking the responsibility of being a speaking witness. In this way the Discipline is concentrated on the development of witness consciousness, which with time guides the practitioner toward experience of an integral witness, an integration of all the layers of witness consciousness.
Being seen, seeing oneself, seeing another, movers and witnesses move closer to their true nature because of the development of witness consciousness. With increasing trust in themselves and in the discipline, through this mysterious developmental but non-linear process of enduring commitment, individuals can journey from the experience of duality to unity consciousness.
